This paper examines these consequences by focusing on four possible channels: (i) the rise in international food and energy prices and the impact on household budgets and the current account; (ii) changes in trade routes and trade flows and their effect on traffic through the Panama Canal, which in turn affect logistics services and government revenues; (iii) the reconfiguration of global value chains/deglobalization and opportunities for nearshoring; iv) the effect of economic sanctions and their impact on the country’s financial system and the need to accelerate measures to counter money-laundering and the financing of terrorism.
