UNDP promotes dialogue and confidence building between state and local authorities, as well as civil society representatives

Razzakov, May 21 2024 - With the UNDP support, a dialogue platform “Strengthening the role and participation of youth, women and councils of elders of Leilek district in peacebuilding, as well as addressing social and economic issues of youth, women and councils of elders of Leilek district” was held in Kyrgyzstan. The event was attended by deputies of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic, representatives of local authorities of 9 aiyl districts and the cities of Suluktu and Razzakov, as well as civil society.
UNDP aims to facilitate cooperation and dialogue among key stakeholders to address local challenges and strengthen synergies. The dialog platform created an opportunity to discuss ways to address economic, social and environmental issues in Leilek district, as well as to increase women's participation in decision-making processes and strengthen social cohesion and security in the border communities of the district.
Kamila Talieva, Deputy of the JKR “A great role in joint search for potential solutions to acute problems of Leilek district, such as the impact of climate change, high rates of poverty and labor migration, difficulties of border communities, is undoubtedly played by public councils of aksakals, women and youth committees. Youth, women and elderly people form the basis of the local civil society.”
“Social cohesion in the border communities of Leilek district is a key factor for achieving stability and sustainable development in the region. UNDP is working to build trust and cooperation between different groups to ensure harmonious coexistence and well-being of all residents,” said Akyn Bakirov, UNDP program specialist.
Currently, UNDP is implementing a number of projects aimed at strengthening social cohesion. Their main objective is to build trust between state and local governments and civil society by intensifying interaction and cooperation in addressing socio-economic and humanitarian issues. Active participation of citizens in decision-making contributes to more transparent and responsible governance and increases trust in public institutions.
The project envisages training events and the creation of platforms for dialogue, which promotes the active involvement of citizens in the process of designing and implementing local development programs.
