BALI, 21 May 2024 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), alongside its Indonesia Country Office, is playing a pivotal role in promoting sustainable water solutions at the 10th World Water Forum in Bali. Embracing the forum's theme, "Water for Shared Prosperity," UNDP is committed to ensuring equitable and sustainable access to fresh water for all.

In Indonesia, UNDP's efforts exemplify an integrated approach to addressing challenges to access to quality water. Through partnerships with the European Union and the Government of Indonesia, UNDP is promoting the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, particularly focusing on responsible water management within industries operating along the Citarum River, the longest and largest river in West Java, Indonesia.

"We've piloted a self-assessment tool with companies along the Citarum, including textile companies, where we have received positive feedback," said Norimasa Shimomura, Resident Representative of UNDP Indonesia. "We hope this tool will be adopted by more businesses to standardize and strengthen their efforts in preventing and mitigating water pollution risks, in Indonesia and beyond.”
