Enhancing Climate Resilience of the Urban Landscapes and Communities in Thimphu-Paro Region of Bhutan

February 20, 2025

Bhutan's growing cities need improved climate resilience. Rapid urbanization, particularly in capital Thimphu and neighboring Paro are straining resources and infrastructure, while flood risks, water stress and other climate-induced disaster risks are growing as climate change continues unabated. The US$20 million project titled, "Enhancing Climate Resilience of the Urban Landscapes and Communities in Thimphu-Paro Region of Bhutan", supported by the Global Environment Facility and UNDP, will build resilience of Thimphu and Paro, Bhutan's two main urban centres and most populous districts. The project will directly benefit over 146,000 residents.
