Social Protection Policy Brief III: Grievance Redress Mechanisms in Cash Transfer Programmes: Best Practices and Recommendations

In collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, UNDP has produced its third policy paper on social protection, highlighting the existing Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) in Pakistan’s largest social protection programme - BISP/Ehsaas. GRM is the process of improving the social accountability and state-citizen interface of cash transfer programmes.

The paper explores the growing demand for building in elements of social accountability and transparency into social protection programmes, to prevent fraud, corruption and clientelism. It also explores global best practices for improving social accountability through efficient GRM, and offers recommendations to standardize and streamline these mechanisms for more effective social protection.
