Crowdfunding for Cultural Heritage Restoration and Conservation
What is the project about?
The project aims to support the conservation and restoration of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage in Türkiye, severely damaged by the earthquakes on 6 and 20 February 2023. This initiative seeks to prevent permanent loss, revive tourism, and sustain the cultural diversity and identity of the region, using a comprehensive approach that includes international collaboration.
What is the situation?
The devastating earthquakes have significantly damaged or destroyed numerous cultural heritage sites across 11 provinces in Türkiye. This has severely affected both tangible assets like archaeological and religious sites and intangible cultural heritage crucial for maintaining community identity and history.
What is our mission?
Our mission is to preserve and restore the cultural heritage of Türkiye, both tangible and intangible, to facilitate economic and social recovery in the affected regions, and to enhance the region’s reputation as a diverse cultural hub at the crossroads of civilizations.
How are we doing this?
The project is being implemented through a strategic crowdfunding campaign that aims to mobilize financial resources and global support. This involves forming partnerships with local and international stakeholders, employing advanced technologies such as augmented reality for detailed site visualization, and carrying out restoration activities that combine traditional methods with innovative approaches to preserve the authenticity and integrity of cultural heritage sites.
How will Türkiye benefit?
The restoration efforts will help rebuild the local economy by boosting tourism and related sectors. It will also reinforce Türkiye's cultural identity and diversity, enhancing its position as a cultural crossroads. Additionally, this will foster a sense of belonging among the local communities and provide economic opportunities through the revival of local crafts and tourism.
