Biodiversity expenditure review

Biodiversity expenditure review

July 22, 2024

This analysis is the first of its kind in Uzbekistan and was prepared using the BIOFIN methodology.

The document presents data that indicates a deficit of direct spending on biodiversity in Uzbekistan: only 0.33% of the country's budget is annually allocated to the field of biodiversity, which is a critically low figure.

However, there are indirect costs — environmental costs — that also have a positive impact on biodiversity. This amount is almost $260 million or 1.21% of all budget expenditures.

The reviewed data and existing issues led to conclusions that formed the basis for some of the recommendations presented in the document.
