Zimbabwe has made considerable progress in fighting the three diseases: HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
AIDS related diseases have decreased by 60% since 2010 and Zimbabwe is on track to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030. Malaria mortality has been on an overall downward trend, with Indoor Residual spraying covering over 90% of homes in malaria prone regions. And despite being a high TB burden country, investments in TB detection and control have contributed to a decline in the mortality and incidence rate.
UNDP, through support from Global Fund, has been supporting these efforts against the 3 diseases, including
- Guaranteeing ARVs for over 710,000 people on HIV
- Providing solar power systems to 405 health facilities, with additional installations in over 600 locations underway
- Innovative tools and strategies in TB control, including mobile testing in remote areas
- Sustained Malaria indoor residual spraying and insecticide treated nets
To build on these results, and address new threats such as COVID, the Global Fund has committed additional grants for the next three years to Zimbabwe.
