Brief Description:

The objective of the project is to eliminate the use of the Ozone Depleting Substance HFC-134a in the domestic manufacturing of refrigerators and freezers in Zimbabwe by the adoption of Isobutane (HC-600a) as refrigerant.

HC-600a is a non-ODS, low-GWP alternative to HFC-134a and the adoption of HC-600a in Zimbabwe will contribute to reducing the environmental impact of refrigeration and freezer production on global warming both in terms of the manufacturing process and the operating life of the appliances.

The project will modify the two existing lines, one each for refrigerators and freezers. It is envisaged that this project will result in an annual emission reduction of about 14.5 MT of HFC-134a.
