This study tries to clarify the challenges and problems facing Iraqi media since 2003. It identifies problems and attempts to propose solutions, and suggestions, or to mitigate their intensity and their negative effects on the freedom of expression, media, opinion, and publication.

The study was conducted as part of UNDP Iraq’s Citizen Journalism Project in 2023. It was prepared by the Center for Defending Freedom of Journalists (CDFJ) in Amman, Jordan, in cooperation with the Civil Development Organization (CDO) – with support from the Government of Germany.
