Youth in Latin America and the Caribbean represents one-third of the population and a key driver of change, innovation and leadership. However, young people face structural barriers that limit their effective participation in decision-making, weakening representativeness and democratic legitimacy. In a context of growing distrust in institutions, polarization and economic and climate crises, it is essential to create spaces where their voices are heard and their involvement becomes a reality.

In response to these challenges, the conversation will explore how anticipatory governance can be a key mechanism to strengthen youth participation in decision-making. Building on the Pact for the Future and the Declaration on Future Generations, adopted at the 2024 Summit of the Future(link is external), the importance of integrating youth into long-term strategies that foster inclusion, transparency and sustainability will be discussed.

This conversation will address the role of institutions in creating effective mechanisms to channel youth participation and rebuild trust in democracy. Through practical examples from the field, this space will seek to demonstrate how active youth participation can strengthen democracy and generate lasting social transformations. Intergenerational dialogue and multi-stakeholder collaboration will be key to rethink the region's future and ensure that youth are protagonists in building more just, inclusive and resilient societies.
