In an increasingly interconnected and challenging world, SDG 17 plays a key role in promoting regional partnerships that strengthen the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Youth Organization for Ibero-America (OIJ) recognize that young people are drivers of change, innovation, and resilience, and their active participation in policymaking and international cooperation is essential for sustainable development.
This event aims to present two fundamental tools: UNDP’s Youth and Futures Guide and the New Youth Agenda (NAJ), promoted by OIJ. These initiatives offer innovative strategies for youth participation and anticipatory governance. The discussion will focus on how these instruments can reinforce regional and Ibero-American partnerships and accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
An essential component of these efforts is the incorporation of participatory reflections on futures—encouraging young people to explore different scenarios, identify strategic opportunities, and develop inclusive solutions. By engaging youth in this forward-looking dialogue, policymakers and institutions can better respond to emerging challenges and harness the energy and creativity of younger generations. The “futures” approach is not just about predicting trends; it is about equipping young people with the tools and methodologies to co-create a vision of tomorrow that is equitable, resilient, and sustainable.
This vision aligns closely with the New Youth Agenda (NAJ), which seeks to empower youth as active agents in shaping long-term policy solutions. Through an integrated framework of foresight, innovation, and governance, both the Youth and Futures Guide and the NAJ pave the way for stronger institutional capacities that place youth at the heart of regional decision-making. By combining anticipatory governance with robust partnerships, these instruments help ensure that the transformation of youth institutions in Ibero-America remains inclusive, forward-thinking, and geared toward achieving the 2030 Agenda.
In this context, institutional strengthening will also be explored as a key strategy to ensure more effective and sustainable public policies for youth. The session will address how innovation and digital intelligence can modernize youth institutions, optimizing their impact and capacity to respond. Finally, there will be a space to reflect on the future of youth institutions and their role in consolidating strategic alliances in Ibero-America.
Finally, the event will also serve to discuss best practices related to institutional strengthening and the improvement of the capacities of youth organizations, through the generation of alliances aimed at training, technical assistance, and the implementation of a rights-based approach.
