Podgorica, February 27, 2025 – Representative of prosecutor’s offices in Montenegro have attended training on gender mainstreaming, organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This training is part of the project “United for Gender Equality”, which aims to strengthen the capacity of the Government of Montenegro to promote gender equality and apply a gender-responsive approach in policymaking, as well as in the strategic and legislative framework. The “United for Gender Equality” project is implemented by UNDP in partnership with the Government of Montenegro and is funded by the European Union.
Through interactive sessions, participants analyzed existing challenges and opportunities in applying gender-responsive approaches within the judicial system. Special focus was placed on improving mechanisms for protecting and prosecuting cases of gender-based violence, in line with international standards and the national legislative framework.
The training provided an opportunity to exchange experiences and best practices in gender-responsive governance. Participants acquired concrete knowledge on recognizing gender stereotypes and worked on developing tools and strategies that will enable them to respond more effectively to gender inequalities within their institutions.
Prosecutor’s offices play a key role in Montenegro’s judicial system, particularly in the prosecution of gender-based violence cases. In 2024, UNDP and the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office formed a partnership to further strengthen the institutional response to this social issue, supporting the adoption of gender-responsive practices and improving the protection of victims of violence. Thus, one of the key takeaways from the training is that integrating gender equality into judicial processes not only enhances the efficiency of institutions but also strengthens public trust in the justice system.
