3000 marginalized Dalit and Plainland Indigenous families, those are hardly hit by the coronavirus pandemic, received food support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with HEKS/EPER and Gram Bikash Kendra (GBK).

The distribution programme was inaugurated on June 11 at Dinajpur Stadium by Deputy Commissioner Md Mahmudul Alam, under full compliance of hygiene directives and recommended social distancing measures. Member of the Parliament, Manaranjan Sheel Gopal of Dinajpur-1 was also present at a distribution programme on June 19. “The support provided by UNDP and HEKS/EPER deserves utmost appreciation. This food relief will help out our marginalised communities immensely during this crisis,” Manaranjan said.
The coronavirus outbreak has exacerbated since the detection of the first few cases in March, and the pandemic has not hit every community the same way. For Dalit minorities and indigenous groups living in the northwestern parts of the country, day to day income has been reduced nearly to zero amid the government-ordered shutdown and strict maintenance of health guidelines.
Each household received 10kg rice, 4kg rice flour, 2kg lentil, 1kg sugar, 1kg salt, 1litre soybean oil, 1kg chira, 1kg semolina, and two bars of soap in their relief package.
