Cetaceans are one of the most remarkable aquatic animals on earth. They constitute an important component of aquatic biodiversity in the vast wetlands of Bangladesh. Of the 10 cetacean species reported to occur in the country, the Ganges river dolphin and Irrawaddy dolphin are two significant aquatic mammals – an ideal indicator species to monitor our river’s health. To conserve the remaining cetaceans in the country, updated information on their status and distribution are urgently needed.
