Cetaceans constitute an important component of aquatic biodiversity in the vast wetlands of Bangladesh. Of the 10 cetacean species reported to occur in the country, the Ganges river dolphin and Irrawaddy dolphin are two significant aquatic mammals – an ideal indicator species to monitor our river’s health. To conserve the remaining cetaceans in the country, guided actions using updated scientific information are urgently needed.
