Being LGBTI in Asia and the Pacific (BLIAP)

Background and Development Challenges

Being LGBTI in Asia and the Pacific – a regional programme led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – aims to address inequality, violence and discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status, and promotes universal access to health and social services. The programme is a collaboration between governments, civil society, regional institutions and other stakeholders to advance the inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people.

The "Being LGBTI in Asia and the Pacific" (BLIAP) project in Thailand was initiated in response to the prevalent discrimination and human rights violations faced by the LGBTI community in the region. The project aimed to address several development challenges, including societal stigma and discrimination, legal disparities, and limited access to healthcare and social services for LGBTI individuals. By advocating for policy reforms, raising awareness, and empowering the LGBTI community, the project sought to mitigate these challenges and promote a more inclusive and equitable society in Thailand.
