About us

UNDP supports the Government’s vision for a sustainable, peaceful Iraq through an approach that strengthens societal resilience to better deal with social, economic, environmental and political shocks and stresses.

Funding and Delivery

The number and diversity of donors contributing to UNDP programmes confirms the confidence of the national government and the international and local community in our role as a partner of choice for sustainable development.

From government counterparts to the international community, to the private sector, civil society organizations and the UN family – UNDP Iraq is a trusted partner, working with a range of stakeholders to support sustainable development in Iraq.

Legal framework

Accountability is the obligation to demonstrate that work has been conducted in accordance with agreed rules and standards and report fairly and accurately on performance results vis-à-vis mandated roles and/or plans.

The UNDP Resident Representative is the UNDP Administrator's representative at the country level, and the head of the country office being ultimately accountable for UNDP’s programs and operations, including for the quality and sustainability of UNDP interventions on the ground.

Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Today's development challenges are complex and each context is different. That's why we tailor our work to fit the needs of the countries and communities we serve. UNDP's Strategic Plan (2022-2025) has been designed to be responsive to the wide diversity of the countries we serve. The diversity is reflected in three broad development contexts: eradicating poverty; structural transformations; and building resilience.
