Other Maps is a practice that combines cartography and qualitative data to tell stories from the perspective of those who inhabit the territories and experience the issues firsthand. The problems are expressed through multimedia micro-narratives that are georeferenced and stratified to show the complexity, connections, and circuits of each thematic area.

Other Maps is an initiative of the Acceleration Lab of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ecuador in collaboration with various strategic partners. It involves collaborative cartographic processes that seek to make community processes, initiatives, and solutions visible.

The maps result from collective journeys attended by different community actors, convened by the interest in identifying and understanding the routes of challenges and strengths around a specific theme. Learnings and narratives emerge from these journeys that are inscribed in the territory.

It is an initiative carried out within the framework of the Dream Lab Project with young people from three neighbourhoods in Quito: Calderón, Tola Grande de Tumbaco, and Chillogallo. It is a way of getting to know and understanding the neighbourhood from the perspective of young people. It narrates young people's observations, experiences, and reflections regarding meeting places, borders, community action, recreation, care, and transit locations.
