Improving Active Participation of Women in Local Governments - Uva Province

November 14, 2024

Findings of previous surveys indicate that the Uva Province has recorded low scores across the main domains of female staff participation, women in decision making positions, gender equality focus, capacity for gender and social diversity mainstreaming and inclusive grievance mechanisms. These low scores on a provincial level are reflected in the district profiles of Badulla and Monaragala.

The study on “Improving Active Participation of Women in Local Governments (Uva Province)” was conducted within the Badulla and Monaragala districts with the objectives of recognizing the barriers to women’s political participation, understanding women’s level of participation, and identifying possible action points to improve the gender responsiveness and active political participation of women within the province.
