Biodiversity
Guided by UNDP's Nature Pledge, we support countries to harmonize human development with nature conservation and sustainable use. We work with governments and other key stakeholders to meet international commitments, by aligning national and subnational policies and practices with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, updating National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), and developing National Biodiversity Finance Plans.
Our efforts extend to safeguarding critical biomes through programmes that preserve and restore biodiversity and essential ecosystem services. This is achieved through actions that promote sustainable production practices and livelihoods, the development and implementation of innovative financial mechanisms for conservation and the alignment and guiding of public policies for nature and environmental governance. Work in the region looks to promote nature-based solutions by linking ecosystem services in support of sustainable development.
Water and Oceans Governance
Guided by UNDP’s Ocean Promise, we prioritize navigating the complexities of the blue economy, with a focus on area-based planning, fisheries restoration, sustainable use, and the utilization of genetic resources for sustainable development and local community well-being. With a transboundary perspective, we foster collaboration for the responsible governance and use of shared ocean, coastal, and freshwater systems.
Our comprehensive approach ensures harmonious coexistence between humanity and water ecosystems, setting the stage for a sustainable future in ocean and water governance. This includes work around blue economies, shared water governance mechanisms and financial innovation.
